Concept

OHS has the capability of eliminating more than 150 of the brightest OH airglow emission lines, which are a major source of background radiation at near-infrared wavelengths (1-2um). OHS is a pre-optics system installed between the telescope and the infrared spectrograph called "CISCO". CISCO is also operated as a general infrared camera/spectrograph when it is mounted on the Cassegrain focus of the Subaru telescope directly.
