What's FMOS?

FMOS (Fibre-Multi-Object Spectrograph) is a second generation common use instrument for the Subaru Telescope. It has been developed under the collaboration with UK, Australia (AAO), and Japan (NAOJ and Kyoto Univ.).
Main features are
・Wide field coverage of 30 arcmin in diameter,
・400 target multiplicity with a 1.2 arcsec diameter optical fibre,
・0.9 to 1.8 micron near-infrared wavelength coverage,
・OH-airgrow supression with mask mirrors, and
・Two spectral resolution modes (R=500 and R=2200).
