Introduction

• HIL と LIL

  

  天体毎にかなり異なる
  Narrow LIL が redshift の決定には最適 (high-z ではやむなく MgII を使うが...)
  Type 1 AGN では HIL はこれに対し blueshift している事が多い
  → 反対側が隠れている outflow (CIV に関しては inflow + 反射という説も)

Diagnostics from single-epoch spectra: internal line shifts and intensity ratios

Analysis

• R=λ/δλ≧1000, S/N≧20 が必要
  redshift もできるだけ正確な値が欲しい

• fitting の際は FeII の寄与の分離が重要

  

  FeII 間の輝線比は固定で幅だけ fit するのが普通(例外あり)
  FeII の template は NLSy1 の I Zw 1 を利用

Unification models and type-1 quasars

• Type 1,2 は orientation effect
  ← Type 2 は偏光成分で BL が見える
  (周辺環境や accretion rate の影響も若干報告あり)

• Type 1 でも orientation effect の影響がある?
  ← RL Quasar では lobe-dominated の方が core-dominated よりも BL 幅やや大
  RQ では影響は不明

• orientation effect だけで全てを説明するのは無理

The quasar main sequence

• Quasar Eigenvector 1 (Boroson and Green, 1992)
  PG Quasar ~80 天体に対し PCA を適用
  R_FeII (=I(FeII4570)/I(Hβ)) と FWHM(Hβ) との間に反相関を発見

• Quasar Eigenvector 2
  同じく Boroson and Green, 1992 で紹介されている EW(HeII4686) と Mv の反相関
  → Baldwin Effect による Hβ と HeII の挙動の違いだが、重要でないので割愛

• Quasar Main Sequence
  FWHM(Hβ) - R_FeII 関係 (logL≦47, z<0.7)

  

  Pop.A は NLSy1 を含む質量降着率の高いグループ
  Pop.B は Radio loud で活動的なものが多いグループ
  FWHM(Hβ)=4000km/s で分かれる
  スペクトルの違い

A bird's eye view of the MS correlates

• Balmer emission line profile shape
  Pop.A: Lorentzian で対称形
  Pop.B: Double Gaussian で赤側に伸びているものが多い

  Pop.A の下半分は NLSy1 だが、上下どちらも Hβは対称なので NLSy1
  かどうかというよりは、Pop.A/B が対称形かどうかの分かれ目

  

• UV diagnostic ratios
  MS 左上から右下にかけて、
  　NV1240/Lyα, AlIII1860/SiIII]1892, FWHM(NIII]1750) 増
  　CIII]1909/SiIII]1892, FWHM(CIV1549) 減
  これらの変化は、
  　密度と metallicity 増
  　ionization parameter 減
  と解釈される

• CIVλ1549 centroid shifts
  Pop.A では CIV の blueshift が見られ、extreme Pop.A (A3,A4) では特に大きい
  → outflow 成分が加わっている
  → FWHM を大きくする効果があり、M_BH に影響

• [OIII] blueshift
  Pop.A では R_FeII大につれて [OIII] blueshift 成分も見られる
  → これも outflow 成分
  (MgII にも outflow 成分が見られることも)

• Radio loudness
  Pop.A: 3-4% に対し、Pop.B: 25%
  Core-dominated が下の方、Lobe-dominated が上の方に分布
  → orientation effect
  CSS (Compact-steep spectrum) は Pop.A に位置し、L/L_Edd 大
  しかし、Pop.A に RL が少ないのは近傍に M_BH大, L/L_Edd 大 天体が無い事が原因かも

• Soft X-ray slope
  Pop.A は Γ>2 で soft-X excess が見られる

Pop. A and B: really a dichotomy?

• R_FeII が L/L_Edd, FWHM(Hβ) が viewing angle で主に決まるのだとすると、
  これだけで Pop.A/B の違いを説明することは困難。
  
• FWHM(Hβ) の最小値は L に依存するので、こっちが鍵かも...

From empiricism to physics

Synergy between reverberation mapping and single-epoch spectroscopy of quasars

• Reverberation mapping は BL を層状に分解して調査できる
  time lag と FWHM は反相関
  LIL では outflow の影響は小さい

Multi-component interpretation of emission lines

• BL は３つの成分に分けて考える
  Broad component(BC): BL の中心成分(virialized BLR)で Pop.A は Lorentzian, Pop.B は Gaussian。
  Blue shifted component(BLUE): Pop.A の CIV などに見られる。outflow などの非対称成分。
  Very broad component(VBC): BLR 中心の FeII は出ないような高電離領域に対応

  

LIL- and HIL-emitting regions

• BL の各成分は分けないとダメ
  Lyα/Hβ: BLUE では~30(low density, high ionization)、BC では~5-10(high density, low ionization)
  Pop.B で BLUE がある場合は必ず CIV/Hβ≫1
  Pop.B の BLUE は RL より RQ で多い(jet が disk wind を拡散？)

• ３成分の強度比
  RQ の場合は放射と重力のバランスで決まる
  Lyα に対し optically thick の場合、加速度の比は
  γ_a=a_rad/a_grav~0.176κL₄₄/M_BH,8/N_c,23~7.2L/L_Edd/N_c,23
  　L₄₄: bolometric luminosity (10⁴⁴erg/s)
  　M_BH,8: black hole mass (10⁸Mo)
  　N_c,23: column density (10²³/cm²)
  　κ: λ<912Å の割合
  → 外向きの加速は L/L_Edd に比例し、N_c に反比例
  γ_a≫1: BLUE 成分ができる
  γ_a≪1: redshifted VBC 成分ができる
  

Connection to accretion parameters

• M_BH の推定には E1 MS 上の位置を顧慮すべき

Black hole mass

• Virial broadening estimator(VBE)
  Hβ か MgII は OK だが CIV は NG
  (補正すれば使えるという報告もあるが、rest frame と MS 上の位置が必要で信頼度も？)
  ξ=FWHM_VBE/FWHM_obs~FWHM_BC/FWHM_obs とすると
  A3/A4: 0.75<ξ<1.0、A1/A2: ξ~1.0 の補正で OK

• BLR 半径 (r_BLR)
  reverberation mapping から time lag で計測か、r_BLR∝L^0.5-0.65 関係から推定
  r_BLR-L 関係も accretion rate に依存する
  → Pop.A に対しては補正が必要になる
  ionization parameter U = Q(H)/4πr_BLR²n_Hc ∝ L/r²n
  Un_H はこれまでほぼ定数扱いだったが、UV 輝線比で補正できる
  　AlIII1860, SiIII]1892 は ionization potential が 18.83eV, 16.34eV で、Hβ の状態を良く反映
  　CIII]1909 は A3/A4 (dense, low-ionization) ではかなり弱くなる
  　L 大の遠方の quasar に対する信頼性はまだ不明

Orientation effects

• RL type 1 では orientation が FWHM(Hβ) に関係している
  RQ では信頼できる orientation indicator が良くわからない
  　[OIII] の blueshift や EW (outflow)、FeII の redshift (equatorial inflow) 等の報告あるが...
  　[OIII] の blueshift は L/L_Edd大のものにも見られ、orientation だけでは決まらない
  　FeII の redshift は否定する報告もある
  

The structure factor

• velocity resolved RM や single-epoch spectropolarimetric observations で構造を調べる事は可能
  
• FWHM/σ 比は Pop.B では Gaussian の値(2.35)前後で Pop.A ではそれより小さいが、
  Pop.A/B の BLR の構造の違いはまだ不明(Pop.A は disk-core 構造？)
  

L/L_Edd

• Bolometric correction
  　5100Å: factor 10-13
  　1450Å: factor 3.5-5
  これも MS 上での位置を顧慮する必要がある(Pop.A ほど α_ox は soft)
  L にも関係するはずだが、全て定数で扱われているのが現状
  

Why Does Ionization Level Decrease With Increasing L/L_Edd?

• L/L_Edd大の Pop.A でなぜ LIL が強く、逆の Pop.B で HIL が強くなるのか
  → Pop.A では BLR 方向への UV が shield されている (optically and geometrically thick slim disk)

Self-similarity of the accretion process

• radiatively efficient accretion の条件下では scaling 可

  

  selection effect はあるが、outflow(●■) は L/L_Edd だけで大体決まっている
  L/L_Edd~0.2-0.3 は FWHM(Hβ)~4000km/s の分かれ目(●/■)とも一致している

Pop. A and B: a different accretion structure

• disk が異なる？

  

  Pop.A: slim disk / Pop.B: flat disk
  　BLR の配置と構造は不明
  Pop.A: UV が slim disk の構造で shield されている
  　CIV が blueshift大、EW小 であるのは中心付近での輻射圧大で終端速度大だから
  Pop.B: flat-disk で、内側の gas が輻射で加速される (failed wind scenario)
  　重力が勝って infall になる場合もある

  Pop.A の Lorentzian wing を説明できない (electron scattering で何とか？)
  磁場や spin の影響も顧慮されていない...

The quasar main sequence at high luminosity

• logL>47 の非常に明るい quasar は z>1 なのでデータが少ない
  M_BH ∝ r FWHM², r ∝ L^0.5-0.65 より、FWHM ∝ (L/M_BH)^-1L^0.18-0.25
  L/L_Edd は２以上では余り増えないので、FWHM の下限は L と相関がある

• L大だと MS は上にずれる

  

  R_FeII も大きくなるかどうかはサンプル不足ではっきりしない
  high-z では L/L_Edd大に bias がかかるので、R_FeII小の天体がほとんどない
  CIV の blueshift は若干 L に関係ある程度
  とにかく、L, L/L_Edd のレンジが high-z では狭すぎ

Extreme Population A sources: extreme radiators and potential distance indicators

• super-massive extremely accreting BH (A3/A4)
  L/L_Edd が頭打ちとなり L/M_BH~一定 となる
  → 広い明るさのレンジにわたり似たようなスペクトルになる
  → L ∝ FWHM⁴ となる(Faber-Jackson law と同じ)ので、標準光源に使える
