⇒ Calzetti law が最も合う ⇒ blue CMR slope の原因は dust extinction

(SDSS は mag range が狭く aperture が小さいので使わない)

NFGS の CMR (以下、blue CMR 部分の data のみ使用)
slope は -0.078 で FIRES sample での -0.09 と consistent

a) Case B 仮定での E(B-V) ⇒ 明るいと E(B-V) 大
b) N2 index ⇒ 明るいと abundance 大
c,d) W_Hα (specific SFR) ⇒ E(B-V)_star～f E(B-V)_HII, f=0.64 とすると、W_Hα の傾きはなくなる
⇒ sSFR は M_V とは関係ない
近傍の U-V CMR は dust によるもの、scatter は age や sSFR の違いが影響か?

上図より、とりあえず dust は無いものと仮定すると
δ(U-V)/δM_V = -0.078
δE(B-V)_HII/δM_V = -0.0060
δW_Hα/δM_V = 0.032
δZ/δM_V = -0.22 (dust free の仮定より)
いろいろ変形していくと、
f = 0.64
δ(U-V)_star/δM_V = -0.004
δ(U-V)_Z/δM_V = -0.0014
δ(U-V)_dust/δM_V = -0.073
となるとのこと。
・U-V - M_V 関係は、dust による stellar continuum の赤化によるもので、age や Z はほとんど関係ない
・U-V color の scatter には、age や Z が関係している

・The Blue Color Magnitude Relation
low-z から high-z まで CMR slope はほぼ一定 ⇒ age や SFH(SF history) は関係していない
また、low-z の red sequence で見られる M-Z relation とも違うのでは？
(この paper では dust によるものと考えている)

・The Scatter around the Blue Sequence
CMR の scatter を age と SFH の違いと考えると...
BC03(const.SFR) では、δ(2200-V) = 0.72δlog(age) (7.5 < log(age) < 10.5)
なので、σ (2200-V) = 0.5 ⇒ log(age) = 0.7 (factor 5)
この scatter を維持し続けるには、新しい young galaxy を追加していくしかない
z_f = 3.5 とし、CMR の scatter を保つため新しい銀河を3パターンで追加
1) 指数関数的に減少 (τ = 2Gyr)
2) constant
3) 指数関数的に増加 (τ = 2Gyr)
その後の SFR の変化も3通り
1) exponential (τ = 0.5Gyr)
2) exponential (τ = 2Gyr)
3) constant
E(B-V) = 0.13で固定、Calzetti law を適用

なかなか σ_bw を維持できない
数値的には近いものもあるが、scatter 分布に "red wing" ができない

上記の model では、必ず red ridge ができてしまう
⇒ "bursty" star formation が必要

σ_bw

The Models
SFH として以下の4パターンを考える
1) ランダム z_f ＋一定期間のみ const.SFR
2) ランダム z_f ＋ exponential SFR
3) z_f = 10 ＋全質量の一定割合をランダム SFR
4) z_f = 10 ＋周期的 SFR (on/off)
BC03 ＋ Salpeter IMF で Monte-Carlo simulation し、scatter 分布と比較
Creating Mock Observations
magnitude limit の影響を調べるため、観測シミュレーションをする。
V-band LF の M^*_V,AB = 22.7
faint-end slope は α =-1.35 を仮定 (α はあまり結果には影響しない)
観測の測定エラーも顧慮
σ(2200-V) = 0.14 (HDFS), 0.19(MS1054)
dust-reddening E(B-V) = 0.13±0.06 加える (local の M_V=-21 blue galaxy と同様)
⇒ Calzetti law ではσ(2200-V)_dust ～ 0.24
全て加えても σ(2200-V) = 0.29 (HDFS), 0.31(MS1054) で、
観測値(0.51 と 0.62)にはまだ足りない。
観測限界 M_V = -19.5 (HDFS), -20.5 (MS1054) で切る

・Fitting models to the data
CMR の傾きを引いて M_V = -21 で規格化したものとKSテストで比較
Results

・Model 1: Constant Star Formation

・Model 2: Exponentially Declining Star Formation

・Model 3: Repeated Bursts

z_f = 10 ＋全質量の一定割合をランダム SFR ⇒ blue ridge + red wing になるが、赤側にずれる
(post starburst が増えすぎということらしい)

・Model 4: Episodic Star Formation

z_f = 10 ＋周期的 SFR (on/off) ⇒ 最も良く合うが、red tail ができないのが欠点

周期は 150-600Myr、duty cycle("on" 期間) 67% で red wing ができる
Discussion
全ての可能性を調べたわけではないが、傾向はわかった

・Implications for the Star Formation History of Blue Galaxies

4つの model の CMR の進化
周期的 SFR だと z～3 から現在まで同様な状況が保たれる

Figure 10 と同じ、model 4) は良く合う

・Implications for Red Galaxies
半分程度の DRG は周期的 SFR でも説明がつくが、残りは無理
Spitzer/MIPS では半分程度の DRG が dusty SB ⇒ high duty cycle
赤い銀河についても将来同様な観測が可能

・Summary
・比較的 small scatter (Red wing)
・"z" 進化なし
⇒ 周期的 SFR (duty cycle ～ 70%)
・Blue ridge
⇒ 非常に若い新しい銀河か massive SB が高い頻度で発生 (z_f > 3)
・CMR の原点が青くなっていく
⇒ 周期的 SFR で説明可(SFR が過去ほど大きいか top-heavy IMF)
　　dust の影響も必要
