SN 1997ab in anonymous galaxy


IAUC No. 6589 reports the discovery of a supernova by H.-J. Hagen and D. Reimers. The supernova was first detected on 1996 Apr. 11 with the Calar Alto 0.80-m Schmidt telescope for the Hamburg Quasar survey (B=14.7 +/- 0.5). The spectrum revealed SN 1997ab to be a member of the rare class of SNe II having Seyfert-1-like spectra. The object has declined less than 2 mag even after 11 months.
