Possible ALEXIS transient on 1996 Nov. 20

(vsnet-alert 590)

ALEXIS has detected a potential transient in Telescope 3B (186 Angstroms, 93eV) at:

         RA= (01 14 44.59)
         DEC=(47 22.58)
         (Epoch 2000)

         Error circle radius = 0.5 degrees (~90% confidence)

There was no evidence of the object in the co-aligned telescope 3A (72 eV). The source appeared to turn on about 0 UT 20 Nov and was still bright or fading at 17 UT 20 Nov when the most recent contact with the satellite was made. A gradual brightening followed by decay was observed between 0-8 UT 20 Nov with a maximum at 4UT. A bright short duration flare was observed at 13 UT 20 Nov. Simbad show 11 objects within the error circle.

Follow up observations are encouraged
