NAGATA, Shin'ichi, D.Sc. (Univ. Tokyo), Solar Physics

Nagata has been studying the solar magneto-hydrodynamic (MHD)
phenomena; the particular interest has been study of the solar coronal
heating problem by using space instruments. He is currently evolved in
the development of a new ground based solar telescope, Solar Magnetic
Activity Research Telescope (SMART) at Hida observatory. The
relationship between the photospheric magnetic field and the coronal
heating is his current main research subject. He is also involved in
the Solar-B mission; the spacecraft observes the Sun with 50 cm
optical telescope, and two X-ray/EUV telescopes, and it is expected
our knowledge on the solar MHD phenomena will be greatly advanced with
the Solar-B observation.
